We asked you to enter photos on the theme ‘Urban East’, capturing aspects of East London in an thoughtful and evocative way. There were some incredible entries, and many thanks to everyone who participated.
The competition was judged by Jasmine Teer, photographic manager and art director for Visit Britain, and we are pleased to announce that the winner is Giorlando, with the following photo.
Jasmine felt that the image "depicts the heart of East London, the vibrancy of a city and moment in time. The photographer has captured a sense of fun and excitement that may have otherwise gone unnoticed. This image signifies the multi-cultural aspects to London and Brick lane as one of most popular cultural areas in London for food and drink, shopping, media and the arts."
Giorlando will shortly receive an Epson Stylus PX800FW photo printer.
Jasmine also selected some commended images, commenting, "they have eye-catching composition, which makes great study for the professional photographer. They tell a story: whether it recognises the changes underway in the East of London as we approach 2012 or the variety of experiences, attractions and architectures enjoyed by residents and visitors in the area. Together they are a fascinating insight into an increasingly popular destination."
The commended images can be seen in our Commended Image Gallery
